Threaded Inserts for EPP Foam

EPPIC insert: Reusable. No stripping. No loosening.

Threaded Inserts for EPP Foam

When to choose EPPIC insert?

The EPPIC insert system is designed for the easy and efficient assembly of EPP foam (Expanded polypropylene) to metal, plastic, or other cover materials. It is the ideal solution for applications requiring:

  • repeated assembly and disassembly
  • high pull-out and loosening resistance
  • manual, semi-automated or fully automated assembly lines
  • process reliability: a large safety margin between installation and stripping torque

How does it work?

1. EPPIC Insert installation into EPP:

  • The special point design pierces and compacts the foam around the insert, eliminating the need for pilot holes, although is recommended to improve alignment (Ø5 × 12 mm).
  • LOBED cross-section reduces installation torque and enhances EPP foam retention between the threads for superior locking.

*We provide technical recommendations for tightening torque and validation for your assembly line.

2. Cover assembly with self-threading screw:

The assembly of the cover part is completed by driving a self- threading screw into the internal hole of the EPPIC insert. We recommend TWINPLAST or REMFORM® screws.

Benefits

  • High process reliability - The wide safety margin between installation and stripping torque allows higher tightening and secure assembly without damaging the EPP foam.
  • Superior retention - High pull-out resistance ensures a reliable components retention in the EPP foam.
  • High resistance to loosening - The unique design enhances foam compression, ensuring effective mechanical locking and preventing loosening.
  • EPPIC inserts can be installed directly into the foam, no pilot hole is required.
  • Versatile assembly - Can be seamlessly integrated into manual, semi-automated or fully automated assembly line.
  • Reusable (or field serviceable) - After repeated removals, the EPPIC insert stays in position and does not become loose.
  • 100% Recyclable - Made of Polypropylene (PP), the EPPIC insert can be recycled together with the EPP parts.
  • Reduces total assembly costs by eliminating scrap and rework of EPP components. The EPPIC® insert’s high stripping torque ensures a secure installation without compromising the foam’s integrity.

EPPIC Insert options

EPPIC insert is available in length 30mm for optimal load distribution.

To assembly the cover material, screw length should be selected to achieve an engagement of 12–16 mm.

- TWINPLAST screw is available in wide range of lengths to accommodate different cover thickness.

Features:

  • Twin lead thread for a fast installation and higher tightening torque and reduced risk of stripping.
  • Cut-off point for easier engagement into the EPPIC insert.
  • High resistance to thread stripping and  loosening after repeated assemblies and disassemblies.

- REMFORM® screw is also an effective option when different head styles, drive systems or coating are required.

Features:

  • High resistance to thread stripping and  loosening after repeated assemblies and disassemblies.
  • Very low thread form torque values offers ergonomic assembly.
