Stripping off

Stripping off occurs when the tension generated during tightening is higher than the nut’s shear strength. When stripping takes place, the screw may turn inside the hole and torque value may reduce.

Different parameters, such as torque, engagement, hole diameter, friction… may affect stripping torque values. In these cases, we recommend verifying the materials, the design and final requirements to determine the best fastener and the assembly parameters.

The following figure shows the distribution of plastic created by REMFORM® screw. The larger contact surface with the thread flanks provides increased resistance to stripping.
